CELEBRATING FIFE RIVERS ON WORLD RIVERS DAY
Come and celebrate Fife Rivers.
Hear what local people and organisations are doing to care for the River Eden and other rivers in Fife. River trees will be highlighted on the day; especially the beneficial impact of trees on rivers and wildlife. There will be talks highlighting the Sustainable Cupar / River Eden Sustainability Partnership, Riverwoods funded project, alongside news of the wider Scottish Riverwoods blue print project. Talks about local action on the catchment – management of non-native invasive species, water quality testing and riverfly surveying will inspire us.
Children’s (and adult’s) activities will give us all the chance to create a visual River Eden catchment, populating our virtual catchment with trees, fish, invertebrates and more. Stalls representing many local groups and organisations, will show how to get involved in local action to look after our environment.
At 3.30pm the premiere of a new film will be shown – Strange kin: a parliament of soils of river Eden. This will be introduced by the makers – Becky Liddle and Tom Morton, with discussion after the film.
Refreshments available all day.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
This October, Cupar Arts is thrilled to partner with artist Sofia Sefraoui and Cheeky Monkey Arts Club to bring a special edition of Saturday Kids’ Art Club for Black History Month Scotland.
Join us on Saturdays throughout October in a series of creative workshops for kids, each inspired by African or African Diaspora artists.
Castlehill Community Centre, 1.30pm – 3pm

OCT 3: Sculpture and installation inspired by Romuald Hazoumé (Bénin)
Inspired by Romuald Hazoumé’s petrol canister portraits and using recyclable materials such as plastic bottles and cardboard, your child will imagine and build a large sculpture representing a person. Your child will use 3D thinking skills, as well as visual learning and building skills.
October 10: Shapes and patterns inspired the Modern Artists of Casablanca (Morocco)
Inspired by the artists of the Casablanca Art School, your child will create 2D shapes based on daily objects (cups, bowls etc) and organic materials (Leaves, flowers, sticks, pebbles etc) to make their own patterns and create an imaginative and colourful composition.
October 17: Colourful Storytelling inspired by Lubaina Himid (UK, b. Zanzibar)
Inspired by Lubaina Himid, your child will design, paint and decorate large articulated cardboard cut outs of different characters in action (playing music, carrying a tray of food, watering a plant etc…). Through storytelling and colour exploration, we will think about the people who make our world work.
October 24: Collage inspired by Silvana Mendes (Brazil)
Inspired by Brazilian artist Silvana Mendes, your child will make a large-scale collage, using images of people, places, plants and animals. They will develop their creative thinking and analysis and association skills.
October 31: Halloween Silhouettes inspired by Kara Walker (USA)
Inspired by Kara Walker, children will make puppets based on these silhouettes and with the help of an overhead projector, project the shadows onto their background. They will draw or paint their own background and cut out Halloween-themed silhouettes.
FESTIVE MOVIE NIGHT
THURSDAY 17TH DECEMBER
UPPER HALL, CORN EXCHANGE, CUPAR. MULLED WINE, MINCE PIES AND A MOVIE. THIS WILL BE A FUN FOR ALL THE FAMILY EVENT.
RAFFLE AND REFRESHMENTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. YOU ARE ALSO FREE TO BRING YOUR OWN SNACKS IF YOU PREFER.
