Wire and Wool
Wire and Wool are a seven-piece band who have been described as ‘full on bluegrass punk and roots revival heaven’. They came together in Dundee in 2014 from a wide range of backgrounds and musical styles, and have been gaining notoriety for their energetic sets and fired up sessions ever since.
Drawing on their diverse influences, from bluegrass to roots, through jazz to blues and Scottish music, they have played recently to enthusiastic crowds at events such as Celtic Connections, the Southern Fried Festival in Perth, the Glasgow Merchant City Festival, and the Insider Festival Strathspey Safari; they also drew a large crowd to the Birnam Arts Centre in August, supported the Peatbog Faeries at the Kirriemuir festival and in October toured Skye along with the Dirty Beggars.
Wire and Wool are Theo Barnard, of Dunkeld, on vocals and acoustic guitar; Hazel Martin, from Glasgow, on vocals and fiddle; Mark Hand, from Dunkeld, on mandolin and shouting; Alex Riach, from Fife, on vocals and fiddle; James Hall, from Ludlow, on bass/cello and vocals; Jimmy Wright, from Fife, on banjo and vocals; and Barry Nisbet, from Shetland, on fiddle and vocals.
