Tempting Fate

A video projection on the steeple of St John’s Church was based on a visual study of the River Eden, which flows through the town, interspersed with underwater footage which was filmed with swimming attendants at the local leisure centre. The video imagery relates to the symbolism of immersion in water, and explores the links between this and religion: submergeance as an acceptance of fate and a state of cathartic renewal.
