Caroline Dear
‘step into another world’
Caroline Dear’s work draws on the idea of peatland as a place of transition to the otherworld and a liminal space for our ancestors, who placed offerings of gold, weapons and tools in the mysterious bog. Her artwork in Cupar Arts Festival raises awareness of peatland through a pair of shoes made to embody this habitat, and an immersive installation in the County Buildings, with each piece made from peatland plants. The work is especially appropriate as Scotland has a significant proportion of global bogland habitat.
Caroline has exhibited her work in countries including Canada and Finland, received awards from organisations such as ATLAS, and taken part in residencies, most recently with the touring exhibition flora curated by Oriel Davies.
